The Clara Barton Memorial
Clara Barton Memorial Dedication | May 7, 2024 The “Clara Barton Memorial Committee” and the Community Foundation are working with internationally renowned Washington County sculptor, Toby Mendez whose work includes the Thurgood Marshall Memorial located in front of the State House in Annapolis, the six Major League Baseball Hall of Fame Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards, The United States Navy Memorial in Washington DC, and the Thomas Kennedy Memorial in Hagerstown. An enthusiastic supporter of the vision of the Clara Barton Memorial, Mendez has graciously offered his commitment to creating the bronze memorial. |
Utility Box Art Wraps
The Hagerstown Arts & Entertainment District selected 9 digital art designs to wrap traffic signal controller utility boxes. Entries were reviewed and selected by the Hagerstown Arts & Entertainment Public Art and Design Work Group. Selected designs are professionally, digitally printed on material rated to last five years and adhered to utility boxes owned by the City of Hagerstown and Maryland State Highway Administration. The first installation will include nine locations of Utility Box Art Wraps in the Hagerstown A&E District. |
“This is Hub City”
Coming in June 2024, “This is Hub City” will adorn the new Hub City Parking Deck on W. Antietam St.. These murals by Nigel Sussman are vibrant, intricate, whimsical and likely to ignite a sense of curiosity. His main goal as an artist is to create fun images that make people happy, and he believes what the world needs right now is more joy, color, and fun. |
“Train of Thought”
Coming in 2025, “Train of Thought”, a sculpture by Mary Ann Mears that will have arcing linear forms creating a visual metaphor for a journey. Stainless steel pairs of curved lines rising from the ground and sweeping back again to tunnel under and re-emerge like a train’s rails. |
