Mural of Unusual Size

Alex Brewer, aka Hense, Atlanta, Georgia

Bad Boy Art Star Transforms Buildings into Beacons of Renewal: Alex combines youth culture roots with a museum-quality design sense. This Mural of Unusual Size transforms a massive deficit along the Trail — industrial buildings that loom over their surroundings — into a signature asset for the trail and city — a beacon of energy and vibrant color visible from long distances.

Bio: Internationally recognized contemporary public artist and award-winning painter Alex Brewer, known as HENSE, has been commissioned to create his signature expressionistic murals by art museums, art foundations, municipalities, corporations and private clients for nearly two decades. His explosive free form compositions in lyrical color harmonies are layered with an almost calligraphic sense of mark-making.

“HENSE combines the quick pace and point-of-view of street culture with tumultuous compositions often characterized by highly keyed color, vertiginous line and biomorphic shapes.”

— Michael Rooks, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, High Museum of Art
