Antonio Tobias Mendez (Toby)

Hagerstown, Maryland

Bio: Antonio Tobias (Toby) Mendez is a Maryland based sculptor, with over 30 years of experience creating significant works of public art. A graduate of the Art Institute of Chicago where he learned the processes of bronze casting practiced by sculptors and fine art foundries for centuries. This hands-on technical experience afforded Toby the early opportunity to cast his own works in bronze and to accept his first commissions. This and his training working with the figure, helped launch his career as a monument maker with a national reputation.

His most notable works are; The Thurgood Marshall Memorial, Annapolis, Maryland; The Six Baltimore Orioles Legends at Camden Yards, The Teammates for Fenway Park; Maggie Lena Walker Memorial, Richmond, Virginia; Danny Thomas and the Children of St. Jude, Memphis, Tennessee; and The United States Navy Memorial, Washington DC.
